Fold Forming for Blacksmiths with Charles Lewton-Brain
A new way to work metal

Fold forming was invented by Mr. Charles Lewton-Brain in the 1980's and is considered by the British Museum Laboratories to be a new way to work metal by hand. The first in thousands of years.

Mr. Lewton-Brain will introduce and demonstrate his methods of working sheet metal by folding, working, and unfolding. This class will focus on basic concepts and how to apply them to hot iron. More information on fold forming can be found at his site: http://www.brainpress.com/Foldforming.html We will have demonstrations and perhaps some hands-on work Thursday evening, Friday evening we will be on our own, and on Saturday evening we will receive an other hour of critique and advice and have a couple more hours after that to practice.

There is Open Smithy time scheduled on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons for those who wish to continue working out ideas and techniques while they're still fresh.

For those who wish to fully immerse themselves, in the daytimes before this class, Metalwerx is offering a five-day class in smaller-scale, non-ferrous fold forming.

Yes, really, we're still asking for it in 2025.
It's still out there, and no fun at all.

Students should have some previous blacksmithing experience, ability to run a coal forge is a definite plus.

Please wear proper clothing for visiting or working in the forge:
closed toe shoes (preferably leather, preferably high-topped. Sneakers are sufficient, sandals, crocs, pumps, mules... are not), natural fiber clothing, long pants that cover the tops of the shoes.
