Open Smithy

A chance to work on your own projects or continue on a project begun in a class.

If you just show up, you're taking a chance that no one else called ahead and we decided to go sailing, or that lots of people called ahead and there's no room to work.

Some smithing experience expected. Ability to light and douse a forge required.

Instructor(s): PHF Staff    $25 per hour 1 hr minimum 10-hour-package discount available    Class size is limited to 4 students (one per forge).

Gift Certificates for Open Smithy are available.

Please wear proper clothing for visiting or working in the forge: closed toe shoes (preferably leather, preferably high-topped), natural fiber clothing, long pants that cover the tops of the shoes. Click here for more safety information.

There are many opportunities for Open Smithy, most are listed on the Calendar. It is often possible to use a forge in a class that has fewer than four students. If you see a class marked "(Space available)" and it's scheduled for a time when you'd like to come in and work,

and we'll try to fit you in.
