<  Drawer or Cabinet Handle All-Forged Folding Knife

Various Handles  >
Poking through the archives of the Florida Artist-Blacksmith Association, I found the K.I.S.S knife. It's an extremely simple folder intended to be made with a bandsaw, drillpress, and grinder. The handle is the spring, and vice versa.
The concept intrigued me and I got to wondering if it could be done as a forged piece, and then I wondered if it could be done entirely with hot processes*. This is the result. It was made from a compression spring. The blade was oil-quenched and differentially tempered with tempering tongs to 'bronze' at the edge. The fit and finish are.. um... rough, it is not pocket-safe, but the pivot is pleasingly tight and smooth. And when it opens, it makes the right 'click' sound. - CW

Overall length when open is a hair over 6".

* Well, OK, I sharpened it cold.
